[EXCLUSIVE]: The Truth About Kanye West’s ‘Rich Black American’
Published on February 5th, 2013 | by Rated K | 14 Comments | 1,470 Views
Editors Note: On February 3, 2013 rumors began to spread about Kanye’s sixth studio album. An image, and tracklist along with a title Rich Black American, were revealed. I knew if anybody had the real scoop on the situation it would be the users on KanyeToThe (The Kanye West fan site). I found that Rated K, an active user on the forum, had successfully debunked the situation and I enlisted him to share his findings here.

THE RISE AND FALL OF XXXXXX
On the KanyeToThe.com forums, it’s very common to see people post fake information to get attention. When I saw Rich Black American, I dismissed it as most likely fake. When the the user XXXXXX posted different codes, I still had doubts, but I wanted to figure out what they meant.
At this point, hundreds, possibly thousands, of users gathered to witness what was happening. False information and rumors began to spread around the site. Since I had been paying attention to the topic when the photo was first posted, it almost bothered me to see the false information.
When Complex magazine reported the story without giving entirely correct details, I realized that someone had to set the record straight. With some help from the site’s (KTT) admin, I wrote a summary of every single thing that happened relating to the issue. Once Rich Black American was proven to be fake, the summary worked as an outlet to inform the site’s users.
CHAPTER 1: THE BEGINNING
On Sunday night (Feb 3, 2013) a new user named XXXXXX created a thread on Kanye To The named “Rich Black American 09|24|2013” The thread contained an image along with a quote.
“Creation of a nation that will someday be a condemnation,
Say no to just simple ideas of human fascination,
I just wanna put this whole damn nation in fucking damnation.”
The thread went nowhere and was locked after a few responses. It was also discovered that the album cover was a painting by Da Vinci.
CHAPTER 2: CRYPTIC POSTS
Then, in the “Kanye West – Sixth Studio Album Thread” things got interesting. Out of nowhere, XXXXXX posted a series of messages:
“26, 1, 172”
“I do not live in this dimension, I just work for DONDA”
When I tried decoded the “92413KWPT2CBSJZBKRFWSLCTPTTCLLRRFOLDRTYMBIMM“ riddle. This is what I came up with:
92413 = 9.24.13 (Release Date)
KW = Kanye West
PT = Pusha T
2C = 2 Chainz
BS = Big Sean
JZ = Jay-Z
BK = Beyonce Knowles
R = Rihanna
FW = Florence Welch
S = Skrillex
L = ???
CTP = Cyhi The Prynce
TTC = Teyana Taylor & Common OR Tyler The Creator
LL = ???
RR = Rick Ross
FO = Frank Ocean
LDR = Lana Del Rey
TYM = Toro Y Moi
BI = Bon Iver
MM = ???
When XXXXXX was questioned about why he hadn’t released any material from the album he responded with “I will try to drop one song by Friday.“
Note that there were already rumors that Travi$ Scott was dropping a song on Friday. This made some users believe that XXXXXX could stand for “Travi$”
CHAPTER 3: ACCOUNT DETAILS
What’s interesting about XXXXXX are these two things:
- XXXXXX account IP did not match any other KTT account’s IP.
- XXXXXX account IP was in France, where Kanye’s team is supposedly located
At this point, Complex posted about the leaked tracklist, other media sites soon followed reporting the false info.
CHAPTER 4: SOLVING RIDDLES
Many people began speculating what “XXXXXX” stood for. Some users guessed “Kanye W” “Pusha T” and mainly “Travi$” because he is rumored to drop a song on Friday.
In response to the “26 1 172” riddle XXXXXX quoted several other posts in the thread implying that these statements were true
“26 songs, 1 film, 172 minutes (just under 3 hours)”
“26 songs is a lot. 2 discs”
“plus a film disc”
When asked what the first single would be like, XXXXXX responded:
01000101 01111001 01100101 01110011 00100000 01110010 01100101 01101101 01101001 01101110 01100100 01101001 01101110 00100111 00100000 01101101 01100101 00100000 01101111 01100110 00100000 01100011 01110010 01111001 01110011 01110100 01100001 01101100 01110011
01000100 01100001 01101101 01101110 00100000 01001001 00100000 01100011 01100001 01101110 00100111 01110100 00100000 01100010 01100101 01101100 01101001 01100101 01110110 01100101 00100000 01001001 00100000 01100110 01110101 01100011 01101011 01100101 01100100 00100000 01110011 01101111 00100000 01101101 01100001 01101110 01111001 00100000 01001011 01110010 01101001 01110011 01110100 01100001 01101100 01110011
This is binary code, and when translated, it reads:
“Eyes remindin’ me of crystals Damn I can’t believe I fucked so many Kristals”
CHAPTER 5: EXPOSED!
XXXXXX broke character and posted in a thread called “Pros and Cons of Meth” and then quickly deleted his post.
Even though XXXXXX had deleted the post an admin found it. The admin also said that XXXXXX was using a proxy and that the user “MC” was responsible.
CHAPTER 6: FINALE
Our friend XXXXXX returned to the sixth studio album thread to post his final messages including:
“follow me on twitter @mvttclosson”
A KTT admin confirmed that MC was behind XXXXXX. Saying this:
I checked user agent strings in the database and found about 20 sessions with a matching string. About half of the users were recently active. Then I just looked through posts and his posts matched the writing style of one of them: MC.
The truth was revealed!
Editors Note: Unfortunately by the time the truth came out websites had already reported the false info some even confirming that it was real. Even though this incident ended up being a hoax, there is still plenty of speculation revolving around Kanye sixth studio album as well as the much debated Cruel Winter project.
Let us know if you are looking forward to Kanye’s next record (If and when it is ever released) and if you think we will be listening to some new tracks anytime soon.
